Thomas a Kempis: The Imitation of Christ

Over the centuries, it’s a book that may be one of the most read after the Bible! Written in the 15th century, Thomas a Kempis’ devotional work, “The Imitation of Christ,” was a compilation of four books.. .translated into more than 90 languages, including French, German, Spanish, Italian and English—and remains popular to this day!

He quoted John 8:12 at the beginning of his work: “He who follows me, walks not in darkness,” says the Lord. Thomas a Kempis asserted that, “By these words of Christ we are advised to imitate His life and habits, if we wish to be truly enlightened and free from all blindness of heart. Let our chief effort, therefore, be to study the life of Jesus Christ.”
