Confessions and Creeds of the Christian Church

The Apostles' Creed
The Nicene Creed
The Athanasian Creed
The Augsburg Confession of 1530
The Scottish Confession of Faith of 1560
The Westminster Confession of Faith of 1647

Creeds and confessions are statements that help different faith traditions express and standardize their beliefs and doctrine. Some creeds attempted to summarize the churches' beliefs about the Bible and its teachings, like the Nicene Creed written in the fourth century.

Referencing stories of Jesus from the Gospels, the Creed says: “He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate; he suffered and was buried. The third day he rose again, according to the Scriptures.”
